NEW PLYMOUTH CARNIVAL. A SUCCESSFUL MEETING The swimming carnival held at the N« Plymouth municipal baths last night prove highly successful in every way. Most of tta events filled well and the finishes were close Over 7bo hundred people paid for and the takings amounted to over £SI. The presence of Messrs. Enw right and Blennerhasset, of Auckland, was an added attraotSon. Mr. Enwright, it will be remembered, is the present New Zealand champion over the 100 yards. The officials were’Starter, Mr. L. B. Webster; handicapper, Mr. K. Kirk; judges, Messrs. A. R. Standish and R. B. Macdonald; timekeeper, Mr. J. Bennett. Results:— LADIES' EVENTS. Ladies’ Race (33 1-3 yards).—Mies H. Rollo 1, Miss D. Watkins 2. Six started. Girls under 11.—N. ‘Pugh 1, T. Stone 2. Four started. Girls over 11.—P. Berrldge 1, J. Stone 2, Seven started. Gills over 14. —Miss I. Doughty 1, Mist D Penman 2. Only starters. MEN’S EVENTS. 100 Yads.—First heat: Enwright (scr) 1, Blennerhasset (Bsec) 2. Four starters. Time, C2 2-ssec. Second heat: Rees (ssec) 1, Henderson (lOsec) 2. Only starters. Time, 77sec. Final: Enwright 1, Rees 2, Blennerbasset 3. The champion was all out over the first two lengths, and won easily In the home run. Time, 63sec. Boys’ Race (33 1-3 yards).—Taylor (scr) 1, Moorhead (4sec) 2. Nine starters. Men’s 33 1-3 Yards (Open).—First heat: Huwell (4sec) 1, Sykes (4sec) 2. Seven starters. Time, 22sec. Second heat: Harding (2sec) 1, Coleman (4sec) 2. Six starters. Time, 21sec. Third heat: Enwright (scr) 1, R.’ekard (4sec) 2. Eight starters Time, 17 2-ssec. Final: Rickard (4sec) I, Enwright (scr) 2. A great race. Rickard, a High School boy, just managed to down . the champion’s colours. Time, 10 2-ssec. 6(5 2-3 Yards (Open).—First heat: Boon (4see) 1, McHardy (ssec) 2. Won by a touch. Five starters. Time, 45sec. Second heat: Enwright (scr) 1, Rees (3sec) 2. Five started: Won easily. Time, 4Usec. Third heat: Foden (4sec) 1, Coleman (ssec) 2. Three started. Won by a touch. Time, 46 2-Bsec. Final: Enwright 1, Rees 2, Boon 3. Won with something to spare. Tim a DIVING EVENTS Men’s Diving.—McHardy I, Morrlae" •< Six entries. Mr. Blennerhasset gave an exhibition of fancy diving, including the swallow dive, somersault dives, the back-front dive, and the “naughty boy” dive. Exhibitions of boys’ diving, ribbon-diving, and pillow fighting were also given. RELAY RACE. Tie High School Relay Race resulted:— No. 2 team (Henderson, Collins, O'Halloran, Fookes) 1, No. 1 team (Foden, Brown, Herdman, Wyborn) 2. Four teams competed. The total distance was four lengihs (133 1-3 yards), and the time taken imin. 35sec. A very successful evening was brought to a close by a “stunt’’ in the water with a espsized boat called “The Boating Excursion,” in which Messrs. Blennerhasset and B. Hartman took part.
