NOT DISARMING.

AMERICA’S LARGE NAVY. BIGGER THAN THAT OF BRITAIN. programme to be fulfilled. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 15, 10.15 p.m. Washington, Feb. 14. Mr. Brooks, representing Illinois, introduced in the House an amendment to the Naval Appropriation Bill providing that Mr, Harding (the new President) must call a disarmament conference before any funds are available for the continuance of the United States’ 1916 naval building programme. The amendment was defeated, and the entire measure was passed, providing funds to carry out the 1916 building programme, which, when completed, will make the United States Navy larger than Britain’s Navy. The measure, however, reduces the enlisted marine personnel from 170,000 to 120,000. — Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn.
