SHORTER HOURS.
44-HOUR WEEK QUESTION. DISCUSSION IN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 15, 10.55 p.m. Sydney, Feb. 15. Judge Beby, of the Industrial Court, who is inquiring into the forty-four hour week question, said he thought he would be justified in accepting as the declared policy of the State forty-four hours work per week as the definite adoption of the higher industrial standard. The onus would be on the employers to prove that the adoption would be prejudicial to industry, and in cases where the employees wished to emphasise a claim, and that a change was desirable for the wellbeing of the employees, the onus would be upon the employees to establish, the facts.—Aus.N.Z Cable Assn. x
