STATE ORCHESTRA HOLDS TOGETHER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Feb. 14. Mr. Verbruggen, addressing his orchestra, stated that the continuance of the orchestra was essential in the interests of music in the State. He suggested support by subsidies as in America and Europe. The players subsequently intimated that they would hold together if possible. CARGO PILFERING. Sydney, Feb. 14. The Federal Cabinet has issued a commission to Mr. W. McFarlane, formerly Chief Stipendiary Magistrate, to inquire into the allegations of cargo pilfering. SHIPPING DEVELOPMENTS. Sydney, Feb. 14. Mr. Walsh, secretary of the Seamen’s Union, has officially announced that the seamen have declined to give the assurances sought, but are prepared to resume on the conditions prevailing prior to the stewards’ strike. It is anticipated that some development is likely at the mass meeting of the seamen on Tuesday.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
