FIRES AT MANCHESTER. DUE TO INCENDIARIES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Feb. 13. Four fires occurred in Manchester during the week-end which are attributed to Sinn Feiners. In each case rags saturated with petrol were thrown into mills and factories, during the night. Much damage was done at Thornham Mill, skips in the yard and bales of cotton stored in the cellars being destroyed, but generally the fires were quickly discovered and little damage was done. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. London, Feb. 13. The incendiaries in one case in Manchester intimidated a watchman, who eventually escaped amid a shower of bullets and gave the alarm. Two suspects were arrested. Eight incendiary outbreaks are reported in the Manchester district. Armed men seized the wat-chman at 1 the Premier rubber works and kept him a quarter of an hour with a revolver against his neck while the rest of the gang collected bags of rubber and set them ablaze. None of the Manchester fires were serious, and they were extinguished quickly. FURTHER OUTRAGES. London, Feb. 12. A pilot engine preceding a troop train carrying ten Sinn Fein prisoners was derailed by an obstruction near Kingasslag (Derry). There were no casualties. Motor-lorries escorting a motor-car were ambushed at Merrion Gates (Dublin,. Heavy firing resulted in three of the attackers being killed. STATISTICS OF OUTRAGES. London, Feb. 13. The outrages in Ireland from January, 1919, to the beginning of the present month, included 70 court-houses and 535 police barracks destroyed, 224 policemen killed and 336 wounded, 57 soldiers killed and 143 wounded.
