THE HALF-HOLIDAY.
THE DESIRE FOR SATURDAY.
INGLEWOOD TAKES ACTION. A representative meeting under the auspices of the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce, to consider the half-holiday question, was held in the Parish Hall, Inglewood, last, night, Mr. F. Hutton, vice-president of the Chamber, presiding. Mr. F. Spurdie moved, and Mr. P. Chapman seconded: “That it is the opinion of this meeting that Saturday is the best day for the weekly half-holi-day, and that a petition for a poll be presented to the Borough Council.” A committee consisting of the Mayor (Mr Sutherland), Mr. F. Spurdie, and Mr. J. Frewin was appointed to attend the proposed conference of delegates, and a committee of six was set up to make arrangements for poll. POSITION IN NEW PLYMOUTH. PETITION FOR SATURDAY. Requisitions are now in circulation petitioning the New Plymouth Borough Council to take a poll at the municipal elections in April on the question of the half-holiday, with a view to having Saturday declared the statutory halfholiday for New Plymouth. INTEREST IN ELTHAM. EXCITING CONTEST EXPECTED. The keenest interest is being taken in Eltham in the half-holiday question. All are taking sides, and the poll to be taken on April 27 promises to provide one of the most exciting contests experienced in Eltham for some time past. The Saturday supporters will lodge their petition for the poll to-day.—Argus.
