LAWN TENNIS.
THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. OPENING ON THURSDAY. The Taranaki lawn tennis tournament, which opens at the New Plymouth Club’s 1 courts on Thursday, promises to be the most successful yet held in the history of the association. The entries are a record, numbering in all 185, showing that in tennis, as in all other sports, , there has been a complete revival since the war. Players are representative of Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Waverley, Hawera, and other Taranaki clubs. The Auckland contingent, whlct comprises seven of the ten selected to reprqpent Auckland against Taranaki on Tuesday next, will arrive here by the steamer this morning. The courts are looking splendid, having been specially prepared for the tournament, which opens at 9 a m. on Thursday. Complete arrangements have been made for the successful running of the tournament by the committee, and tte secretaries (Messrs Wynyard and Archer). The afternoon tea will be under the control of Mrs. White, late of tlie Victoria League.
