"GOD AND ME.”
• WILHELM AND BETRAYAL GUILTY WORLD SCOURGED. VOSES AS PE ACE-M AKO By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. 12, 5.5 p.m. New York, Feb. 11. The United Press correspondent in Berlin obtained from Heinrich Petermeyer, formerly a tutor to Count Ben- * tinck’s sons, particulars of an interview which Petermeyer was granted by the ex-Kaiser shortly before Wilhelm left Doom. The interview was arranged through Count Bentinck. The ex-Kaiser said: “We would never have lost the war if my people had remained true to themselves. We had already overcome hunger and need, despite America joining hands with our eternal enemy, Britain. “Germany’s betrayal signified her death sentence. Notice how God is scourging the whole world now that my people betrayed itself, its God and me, during the war. The Social -Democrats took care of that. They are chiefly guilty. Every German soldier who returned home on short leave was systematically worked upon and spiritually spoiled. He returned to work under false influences, and was not a soldier any more. Then he sought to influence faithful comrades, and often succeeded.” Petermeyer asked: “Does that mean the death sentence for ever? The ex-Kaiser replied: “Nobody knows that. Only the Almighty God can help us. In the near future Ido not expect much. The world looks darker every days it was never so far removed from peace. The whole world denied God: not onlv my people. For twenty-six difficult years I alone fought to keep peace, and then the sword of peace was struck from my hand by my best friends. I never wished war.” Referring to King Victor Emanuel (Italy) Wilhelm said: “Who could have guessed Shat a friend would have become an enemy? I was sometimes warned, and it was not without intention that I showed King Emanuel my fleet at Kiel in July, 1913.”—United Service’.
