INDUSTRY PROBLEMS.
GERMAN TRADE DEPLORED. THE COAL POSITION. By Telegraph.—Press Association Auckland, Last Night. At the Industrial Conference reference was made to the statement that German toys were flooding Britain, and it was resolved to dispatch a cablegram to the High Commissioner deploring the fact that British traders had already renewed considerable trading with Germany to the detriment of British manufacturers and workers. It was resolved that the Government be asked to appoint a Royal Commission to report on the coal position in the Dominion. The mover, Mr. Jenkin, Christchurch, said the commission should report as to the real cause of the shortage and what the remedy was. Mr. O. J Ward, Wellington, was elected President, and Mr. F. Cooper, Christchurch, was appointed a representative to travel with the Tariff Commission to lead the evidence as to the Association’s views on the subject.
