BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP. FRY IN WINNING POSITION By —Press Assn—Copyright. Received Feb. 9, 7.40 p.m. London, Feb. 8. Hooper, early in the afternoon, looked dangerous with breaks of 41 and 58. Then Fry drew away with a break of 106, followed by 52 and 58. Hooper put in a nice 54 and Fry replied with 60, and he is now in a winning position. ThougTKjlooper displayed great skill, scoring 79 off the read alone, the result i» disappointing from an Australian standpoint after Hooper’s brilliance yesterday afternoon, but Fry stowed more stamina and lasting bower. Hooper would hare been wiser if he had relied more on the losing hazard game. Fry was much better at the top of the table. Hooper did not relax his efforts, and there always seemed a chance of his making a big break, but it did not come off.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
