Michael Collins, adjutant-general in the Sinn Fein army, was shot dead in the Skibbereen fight on February 3, in which an ambush was defeated by the arrival of police and military reinforcements. j Constable Cumming, of the Ulster Constabulary, was murdered at Warjtenpoint by a bomb which was thrown ! from behind a wall. • A military patrol surprised a party !of men at Clonmel making a trench. | Shots were exchanged a youth being I Shots were exchanged, a youth being ; Received Feb. 8, 11.15 p.m. - London, Feb. 7. ’ The death of Michael Collins is still i unconfirmed. The police are assured Ithat he fell while giving instructions to Sinn Feiners during the battle of i Skibbereen. It is believed the Sinn Feiners’ loss is ; even greater than six killed, and that ‘ the object of burning down Mr. Thomas Kingstone’s house, which was used by ambushers as their headquarters, was to conceal the numbers of dead. Mr. Kingstone Has lodged a claim for £20,000. i Dublin Castle believes that most of the recent ambushes were due to strong flying columns of rebels under Collins’ command, and acting as his body guard. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. RAID ON A BANK. Received Feb. 8, 11.15 p.m. London, Feb. 7. Armed Sinn Feiners raided the branch of the National Bank in Dublin.
