- BODY FOUND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Feb. 5. The dead body of a newly-born male child was found this morning on a road at Addington. There were no marks of violence on the. body, which was in a cardbpard boot box and covered with a part of a faded purple skirt. KAPUNI TROUBLE SETTLED. Wellington, Feb. 5. she Kapuni trouble has been settled, the owners agreeing that no benzine shall be carried, until the result of the inquiry into the explosion at Patea is made known. HYDRO-ELECTRIC BOARD. Palmerston N., Feb. 5. Th*e Mayor has received advice from the - Minister of Public Works that he has decided upon the following constitution of the proposed Manawatu Electric Power Board.—Palmerston North Borough 3 members, Feilding Borough 1, Manawatu, Oroua and Kaiaranga Counties 2 each, Pohangina and Kiwi-tea 1 each. CARELESSNESS HELPS CRIME. Auckland, Feb. When sentencing John Andrew Riddell, aged 22, on two charges of forgery and three of false pretences involving £237, his Honor Judge Stringer commented on the amazing carelessness of people in business houses. Accused walked into a stock agent’s office, said he was the son of a client, and received an open cheque for £159, which he cashed at the bank. Later he telephoned the same firm representing that ‘ e was the son of another client, wit • •• result that a cheque was sent t . ‘tr. at a certgin address, whereupon no went to another firm, tendered the cheque in payment, and received an open cheque for the balance. If that is not crime made easy, remarked his Honor, it is difficult to see what is. He was disposed to put the lad on probation and make him pay a certain amount of the money stolen. The case was adjourned for a week.
