FALL IN A FIRE.

MAN AMONGST BURNING COAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Feb. G, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Feb. G. While investigating a fire in a bunker of the steamer Cornwall, the chief refrigerating officer, Lewis, was standing on some coal when the heap collapsed and he fell twenty-five feet, and was surrounded by burning coal. Lewis managed to crawl to the side, where he hammered for assistance. After three hours, during which oxygen was pumped down to him, Lewis was rescued in a critical condition. The rescuers had to cut through an iron wall with an oxy-acetylene burner.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
