DEBT TO BRITAIN.
EARLY WAR EXPENSES NO PAYMENT MOVE YET. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. There has been mych stated in the cables recently with reference to the funding of the Australian war debt to England. New Zealand is also indebted to Great Britain for advances made in the early .days of the war and for sums expended in the equipment and maintenance of troops in the field. The sum is, however, not nearly so great as that owing by Australia, as New Zealand requirements were not so heavy, and further, the Dominion commenced at an early date to find money within ier own borders. No steps have been taken as yet to fund this portion of the war debt. It is simply stated as a debt to Great Britain and interest ig paid upon it if necessary. It will no doubt be possible later, to make an arrangement similar to that entered into by Australia.
