When two lengths of the baths were covered It was obvious that the Olympic representative was beaten. The Canterbury swimmer kept up a great effort and finished strong, Miss Walrond being five strokes behind. Miss Holft (Auckland) was third. Time, 69 sec. —a new record. The winner was accorded an ovation. Mile National Championship of New Zealand.—L. Hill (Canterbury) 1, E. V. Cunnold . (Auckland) 2. Won by 15 yards. Time, 25imin. 45sec. G. R. Champion (Auckland) was the only other competitor to finish. 100 Yards Back Stroke Handicap (5 competitors).—J. L. Deem (Wanganui) 1, F. Truscott (Canterbury) 2. Time, 90 4-ssec. Diving Competition.—Cunningham (Otago) 1, Crosbie (Christchurch) and Miss Freedman (Hawke’s Bay) equal 2.
