DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. FIRST DAY’S RESULTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The New Zealand amateur swimming championships opened on Saturday night. There are two hundred and fifty competitors from all parts of the Dominion. Results: — 50 Yards Junior Girls’ Championship.—A. Mather (Canterbury) 1, P. Page (Auckland) 2. Time, .35 2-ssec. 100 Yards Junior Boys’ Championship (7 competitors).—N. Dowsett (Wanganui) 1, A. Barker (Auckland) 2, R. Callaghan (Auckland) 3. Time, 71 3-ssec. 100 Yards National Championship of New Zealand (7 competitors).—J. Enwrlght (Auckland) 1, L. Kronfeld (Auckland) 2, E. G. L. Paterson (Wellington) 3. A great race. Time, 63 l-ssec. 66 2-3 Yards Inter-Club Handicap (35 com-petitors).—-M. C. Simes (Canterbury) Bsec 1, H. G. Smith (Canterbury) 9scc 2, J. W. Barr (Otago) 12sec 3. Time, 2min. 44see. 100 Yards Ladies’ Champ'.onshlp of New Zealand (4 competitors).—-Miss G. Shand (Canterbury) 1, Miss V. Walrond (Auckland) 2. A great race. When two lengths of the baths were covered It was obvious that the Olympic representative was beaten. The Canterbury swimmer kept up a great effort and finished strong, Miss Walrond being five strokes behind. Miss Holft (Auckland) was third. Time, 69 sec. —a new record. The winner was accorded an ovation. Mile National Championship of New Zealand.—L. Hill (Canterbury) 1, E. V. Cunnold . (Auckland) 2. Won by 15 yards. Time, 25imin. 45sec. G. R. Champion (Auckland) was the only other competitor to finish. 100 Yards Back Stroke Handicap (5 competitors).—J. L. Deem (Wanganui) 1, F. Truscott (Canterbury) 2. Time, 90 4-ssec. Diving Competition.—Cunningham (Otago) 1, Crosbie (Christchurch) and Miss Freedman (Hawke’s Bay) equal 2.
