RAILWAY UNIONS.

AMALGAMATION FAVORED. PROPOSAL TO BE DISCUSSED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, Feb. Jk At a largely attended meeting of railwaymen at Frankton the following resolution was carried:—“That this meeting favors a federation of three railway societies, the Railway Officers’ Institute, the Engine-drivers’, Firemen’s and Cleaners’ Association, and the Amalgamated Society of Servants.” Wellington, Last Night. Regarding the proposed federation of three railway societies mentioned in the Press Association telegram, Mr. J Mack (general secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants) stated that he had received no direct intimation as yet that the resolution had been passed. The whole question, however, from the points of view, not only of the federation, but also of the amalgation of three railway societies, would be fully discussed at the triennial conference of the A.S.R.S. to be held next week, but there was not a doubt that the rank and file of the railway servants, so far as he was aware, was in favor of the amalgamation, which up to the present had been declined by the Locomotive-men’s Association, and had never been seriously discussed by the Officers’ Institute.
