Millen has completed an agreement with Mr. Chamberlain for the funding of £90,000,000 of the Commonwealth indebtedness, including war loans and military debts for periods ranging from twenty-six to thirty-seven years, interest ranging from three and a half to five per cent., plus one per cent, sinking fund. —Aus. and N.Z. The .Duke of Connaught laid the foundation stone of King George’s Dock, which will cover an area of 100 acres, providing berthing accommodation for thirty-five additional vessels. French authorities attended a touching consecration ceremony, a choir of village children singing “God Save the King”. Diplomatic circles have received, advice that Kemal Pasha has addressed a Note to the Turkish Government declaring that ''they must not participate in the London Conference, since they are not. an authorised Government. The Government has decided to sue the ex-Emperor Karl to recover Crown jewels worth £4,000,000, which were smuggled into Switzerland in 1918. is understood Italy has already claimed a portion. —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn. AMERICA’S TARIFF. Received Feb. 3, 8.30 p.m. Washington, Feb. 3. The Senate defeated the closure debate on the Emergency Tariff Bill, which is regarded as dooming the measure, which the Democrats can talk to death. Even if the Bill is ultimately passed the Senate will be unable to pass it over the Presidential veto. Opposition to the Bill grew following upon the announcements that Canada and Argentine were prepared to introduce retailiatory measures if the Bill was passed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. AMERICA BUYS AIRSHIP. Received Feb. 3, 8.30 p.m Washington, Feb. 2. The War Department lias announced the purchase from the Italian Government of the airship Roma, the second largest semi-rigid airship in the world. The Roma is 410 feet jn length and has a cruising radius of 3300 miles. The price was 200,000 dollars.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
