“I’M AWFULLY NERVOUS”

WOMEN ON JURIES. EXCUSES AT OLD BAILEY. 1 London, Jan. 11. “I am awfully nervous. I don’t think I am suitable,” was the excuse of one among many women called foi* the first time to serve on juries at the Old Baily to-day. The Common Sergeant soothingly remarked “We are all more or less nervous,” but excused the lady on her" persisting that numbers of other women more strong-minded than herself would enjoy serving. Another woman was refused exemption because she had no particular reason for desiring to be excused. Sleeplessness, attendance on an aged mother, and a single-handed business were among the excuses accepted, but none of the women were apparently anxious to see what service on a jury was like.
