An address on Canada will be given in New Plymouth on Friday night by Mr. W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Trade Commissioner, who is at present visiting New Plymouth. The meeting is being convened by the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce and will be open to the public.
In accordance with the wishes of the Eltham School Committee, who are making a special endeavor to re-establish the Eltham District High School, quite a good number of prospective pupils attended the special class opened on Monday for thosp who wish to join the high school if it is again opened (says the Argus). The chairman of the school committee (Mr. I. J. Bridger) said that there were seventeen in attendance at the special Class, and five more will be placed upon the roll before the expiration of the week, thus making a total of twenty-two. As the average attendance of a district high school is twelve, there is now every prospect of the committee’s efforts being attended with success, and the Committee deserve, congratulations. The Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr) will be communicated with immediately upon this matter.
Many and weird are the “tips the racing public follow. The latest is the one given by Floss, the canine marvel now performing in New Plymouth. On Tuesday night Floss was asked to give the number of the winner of the Cup, and barked three distinct barks. Warplane’s number was 3.
