COAL MINERS’ DEMANDS. Sydney, Jan. 31. ' The annual council meeting of the Coal and Shale Employees’ Federation . carried a no-confidence motion in the Ministry for failure to reinstate the i strikers victimised in 1917. It also decided to make the following , demand on coal owners. A six hours shift from bank to bank, a fortnight’s holiday on full pay, and a five days’ i week. A New Zealand delegate was present at the Coal Employees 1 Federation Conference and explained the Dominion position. RACE MEETINGS LIMITED. Melbourne. Jan. 31. Owing *o the coal shortage as the result of the shipping trouble, the Government is limning iace meetings, and Saturday’s fixtures will be postponed unless the position improves. Meantime the forthcoming Victoria Amateur Race Club’s February meeting may have to be postponed.
