Linseed Oil.—£3o 10s. Turpentine.—Bos. WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. By Telegraph.^—Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 31. The wool sales are proceeding. The catalogue totals 17,000 bales and competition is mainly American for well classed and niceconditioned wools. The prices for such have ■ increased a half-penny on last sales. The Continent is securing the best lambs in ecun- | petition with local mills. Merinos are not wanted. Really super-crossbreds are well up to last sale or slightly above. Faulty and seedy lines are below last' sale rates, or not wanted. Corriedale realised 14d. The sale is proceeding. FARMERS' CO-OP. REPORTS. The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand, Ltd., report as follows for the week ending January 29, 1921 : At Okaiawa on Monday there was a medium yarding. Prices were as follows: —Cull laimbs to 10s 3d, best cows £8 10s to £9 17s, others £5 to £7 10s, light to £4, bulls £4 to £6. On the same day we held our opening sheep fair at Mangamingi, when we yarded some 4000 sheep. There was a splendid attendance of buyers, and the sale was most satisfactory. The sheep were mostly in good condition, and the lambs better grown than previous years. Vendors in every case realised that to effect sales they must not expect last year's high prices, and with the exception of about 300 wethers the whole entry found fresh owners. A nice line of 750 4 and 6-tooth Romney ewes on account of Mr. Wilfred Perry made 23s 3d, Other sales were: Four and 6-tooth wethers from 22s to 23s lOd, s m. ewes 15s to 16s 6d, culls to 10s, best lambs 16s 6d, good Ils to 13s, culls 6s to 9s 6d.
On Wednesday, at Eltham, a fair yarding of cattle and a medium yarding of sheep came forward. Cattle sold well at prices on about a par with late rates. Quotations: Fair good lambs Us to 12s, culls to 9s, best cows to £9 16s, good £7 to £S, others £4 to £6, heavy works bulls to £lO, others £5 to £7, Jersey weaners to £4 15s, dairy cows to £8 10s. At. Hawera on Thursday we yarded 2600 sheep and 250 head of cattle. Although bidding was not brisk, there was a fair demand, and with the exception of one pen of Jersey weaners we disposed of the whole entry. There was a particularly good entry of rape lambs. Black faces made to 17s 9d, w.f. to 16s, fair good lambs (well grown but not much condition) made from Ils 6d to 13s, cull b.f. to 10s, others 7s to 10s, small mixed 2-tooths 14s to 16s 6d, fat wethers to 295, fat ewes, proportion maidens, to 22s 9d, fat and forward ewes 18s to 19s, fat maiden heifers and cows (good) to £lO 16s, good cows £7 to £8 10s, medium £4 to £6, light to £4, works bulls from £5 to £9 according to weight. Jersey weaners from £4 10s to £5 10s, other crossbreds to £3 ss, small ditto from £1 to £2, yearling steers to £3 ss, dairy cows to £9 10s, b.f. rams to 10% guineas. At Waverley on Friday we had a good yarding of both cattle and sheep. Buyers were in attendance, and a satisfactory sale . resulted, practically everything being cleared under the hammer. B.F. lambs made to 16s, cull do. to 10s, mixed aged small ewes to 15s 6d, fair wethers- (mixed ages) to 17s 2d, forward wethers to 235. works bulls £4 to £6, forward cows £7 10s to £7 16s, good £5 10s to £7, light £3 10s to £5, 3-year forward steers £9 to £9 9s, yearling steers £3 15s to £4 Bs, 2-year do. low conditioned to £5, Jersey weaners to £5, dairy cows and heifers £8 to £ll. WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Co-op. Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report as follows: — At Hamilton on Thursday, January 27, we had a full yarding of cattle, sheep and pigs, and although values were low, competition was fair and practically everything was disposed of. The supply of beef was heavy. Ox beef
maintained recent values, but cow beef was easier. Best bullocks made to £l7 12s, lighter weights £ll 15s to £l5 IDs, best cows to £ll 15s, lighter £7 15s to £9 10s, freshconditioned cows £4 12s 6d to £6 10s according to size. No two or three-year steers were penned. Yearlings were saleable up to a certain figure, heifers making from £3 3s to £5, steers £3 to £3 Us for medium quality, smaller sorts £2 9s 6d to £2 16s, weaner calves were not strongly’ represented, medium sorts bringing up to 355. A pen of good quality Shorthorn calves (mixed) was sold at 3 Is. Bulls realised from £4 to £9 15s, according td l -weight. The sheep pens were well filled, and’ in consefiueiice values considerably declined, although a line of well fatted ewes from the Khcihg Club realised 265; other lots 19s to Best woolly lambs (forward) made to 20s 2d, second quality 17s to 19s, shorn lambs Ils 9d to 15s. The market for pigs showed n’d’ improvemterit, rather the reverse. Baconers ’riiad© to ®3 19s, porkers to £3, weaners 0s to 15s. Dairy heifers onade up to £-10 15s. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. (Hawera Branch) report as follows Cor the week ending January 29, 1921 At Opunake on Monday, we quote:—Export cows and heifers to £8 2s 6d, others to. £4, Shorthorn in-calf heifers £8 2s 6d; 15month steers £3 12s, export bulls £7 to £7 15s. At Manaia on Tuesday, prices were:—Wool-* ly lambs 9s 6d to 10s Gd, fresh conditioned cows to £5 Is, others to £3. At Palmer Road on Friday we had a full yarding of both sheep and cattle, and although the prices were low for the cattle, all the vendors were prepared to meet the market. We quote: Good cows to £8 7s, fresh conditioned ditto to £6 15s, others £3 to £4 16s, export bulls £3 10s to £7 2s 6d, shorn lambs 10s to Ils 4d, culls 5s 3d.
