TARANAKI DAILY NEWS. STRATFORD AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication should be left at the office of the local representative, W. J. Wilson, next Union Bank. WELFARE LEAGUE. January 29. A branch of the New Zealand Welfare League was formed in Stratford this morning, after an address on the aims and objects of the league had been delivered by Mr. David McLaren. The meeting was held in the Borough Count oil chambers, and Mr. W. P. Kirkwood was voted to the ehair. Mr. McLaren stressed the fact that the league was conducted on broad lines, in that it was non-political, non-sectarian, and generally carried out operations for the good of the people aa a whole. The speaker also dealt with the directions in which the league operated—educational propaganda, industrial mediation, etc.—and forecasted an extension in the matter of platform work and organisation of branches. CHAUTAUQUA SEASON. The third Chautauqua season in Stratford will commence on IViday, February 4, and continue until Thursday, February 10 inclusive, there being six evening and six afternoon sessions during the season. This year’s Chautauqua comes to Stratford with a reputation built on the splendid success of the previous two seasons, a/id the public can feel assured that this educational entertainment will be bigger, brighter, and better than ever before. The programmes will consist of music, lectures and other forms of entertainment, and ’a unique opportunity is afforded the public of Stratford of hearing artiats with world-wide reputations. The Chautauqua entertainments are the only entertainments in New Zealand that have been exempted from the amusement tax, the Government having granted the exemption because it realises that Chautauqua is educational and aims to provide the general public at reasonable prices with the best of talent available. The Chautauqua Association is now purely a New Zealand organisation and is quite free of American control, so there should be.no hesitation on the part of anyone in obtaining tickets. Seasbn tickets mav be obtained from any of the local guarantors, or from the secretary, Mr. D. M. Clarke, Box 105, Stratford. THE KING’S CINEMA THEATRE TONIGHT ONLY. “THE DANCIN’ FOOL.” “The Dancin’ Fool,” a Paramount Artcraft picture in which Wallace Reid, the best liked of all male stars, takes the stellar role, will be screened at the King’s Theatre, Stratford, to-night only. “The Dancin’ Fool’’ is one of tire very best pictures that* have ever been made under the Paramount banner, and Wallace Reid rises to heights unknown. This is a dancing picture and you will find it hard to sit still and see the motions of the jazzy jazz band and the restless feet of Wallace Reid and Beebe Daniels lightly touching the floor in harmony with the music. “The Dancin’ Fool” is a light, breezy comedy and one which will be remembered by the spectator for many a long day. The supporting cast includes Raymond Hatton, Tully Marshall, George B. Williams, W. 11. Brown and a host of others too numerous to mention. Supporting items include a Carter de Haven comedy, -Vacation Time,” Educational and Gazette. The prices for this picture remain as usual.
