ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DEATH DUE TO EXPLOSION, By Tslegranh.—Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 29. The evidence taken at the inquest concerning the death of P. Hulse, near Brooklyn, through the explosion of a benzine tank, showed that deceased, apparently seeking to know why his car stopped, examined various parts, opened the inlet of the tank, and peered in with a lighted match in his left hand. The tank was nearly empty of oil, but full of a mixture of vapor and air, which exploded and killed Hulse instantaneously. The theory of one witness was that the vacuum feed went wrong. The coroner, Mr. Riddell, S.M., commented on deceased’s lack of experience. He had driven for two months, but only in an emergency. A verdict that death was due to an explosion in the benzine tank was returned.
