“SOLDIERS SHOT BY MISTAKE.” Telegraph —Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 29, 5.5 p.m. Paris, Jan. 28. an enquiry has opened concerning the case of six married soldiers, who, it is alleged, were shot by a mistake in December, 1914, on the ground that they abandoned their posts in the presence of the enemy. Their widows are claiming the revision of the sentence and the proclamation of the men’s innocence. Before their death the soldiers were given time to inform their relatives of their impending fate and one wrote to his wife: ‘T am going to be shot for an unknown reason.” He stated that two squads retired by order of an officer, who denies the allegation. The Court annulled the sentence passed on the six soldiers who were ehot, and awarded their widows annual pensions of twd thousand francs and their children one thousand franca from Deeember. 1914.—Au5.-N.Z.
