PROBATION ABUSED.

PRISONER FAILS TO APPEAR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Donald Pugh, aged 18, who, at the Magistrate’s Court, on a charge of attempted carnal knowledge was ordered to appear at the Supreme Court for sentence, failed this morning to answer when his name was called. He was one of the first to be admitted to probationary bail under the amended Probation Act, 1920. Previously prisoners committed for sentence were not admitted to bail. Counsel for the prisoner said he had no- knowledge of Pugh’s whereabouts,. ®n<T his arrest was ordered by Mr. Justice Herdman.
