PRICE OF BUTTER.
GISBORNE REPORTS REDUCTION. A MISTAKE SUGGESTED. A Press Association telegram receive ed from Gisborne yesterday states: “It is reported in business circles here that a reduction in the price of butter of probably 4d per lb will take place in a few days.” “It must be a mistake,” said Mr. Arthur Morton (chairman of the National Dairy Association), when the telegram was referred to him by a Daily News reporter “The Government has fixed the local price ol butter and there cannot be any change until March 31.” Mr. Morton mentioned that the English retail price, which is 3s 4d, is going to be reduced to 3s on February 7, and he suggested that the reduction in fourpence at Home had been confused to apply to New Zealand. DECLINE AT HOME. ANOTHER FALL IN DANISH. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.-—Copyright, Received Jan. 28, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan 27. The price of butter is steadily declining. The Government is now purchasing Danish at 226 s f.0.b., compared with 297 s in mid-December.—Aus.-N.Z. Cabl Assn.
