TRADE RETURNS.
DECREASE IN EXPORTS. IMPORTS MORE THAN DOUBLE. TARANAKI FIGURES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The total value of the imports into New Zealand for the December quarter was £18,416,184, compared with £B,278,594 in the corresponding quarter of 1919. The total imports for the year 1920 was £61,595,828, compared with £30,671,698 in 1919. Comparative figures for the leading ports of entry were as under: —
Of the total for the December quarter £9,500,000 worth came from the United Kingdom and £4,120,000 from British possessions, Australia contributing rather mqre than half, or £2,360,000, Fiji-£609,000, India £361,000, and Canada £631,000. Of the balance from foreign countries amounting to nearly £4,750.000, the United States supplied £3,540,000. Japan £357,000. Italy £156,000, Java £89,000. The exports during the December quarter totalled £11,256,379, compared with £12.704,775 in the previous corresponding quarter. The exports for the whole year 1920, including £36,580 specie, totalled £46,441,946, a decrease of £7,528,029. .The United Kingdom was the best customer last quarter, taking £8,688.000. The United States Took £1,414,000. Australia £582,000, and Canada £351,000. The exports for the past two years from the principal ports compare as under:—
