STRATFORD.

TARANAKI DAILY NEWS. STRATFORD AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication should be left at the ofilce of the local representative, W. J. Wilson, next Union Bank. January 26. About 200 farmers, including a number of ladies, visited the Stratford Model Dairy Farm to-day on the occasion of the annual visitors’ day. The ' party inspected the numerous paddocks, and much interest was taken in the experimental plots of fodder crops, the value of the different classes of artificial manures being clearly indicated by the differences in the growth of the crops and pastures. The portions on which no manure had been used showed very little advancement in comparison with those which been manured, and in order to assist the visitors, full particulars of the qualities and varieties of manures in each experimental plot were clearly printed on pegs in the ground. z Mr. J. W. Deem, chairman of the committee, explained to the visitors • irious matters in connection with farm. At the conclusion the inspection the party returned to the up-to-date milking shed, where afternoon tea was dispensed. The farm consists of 143 acreo and much praise is due to the committee and staff for the excellent I results achieved. The old bridge across the Patea river in Broadway is again receiving a few .temporary .repairs, some of the planking being renewed. The bridge has been condemned as unsafe for heavy

traffic and a new full-width bridge was one of the principal items in the loan proposals which were recently carried by the burgesses. The work of building the first house under the Borough Council’s housing scheme has been commenced, and it is expected that the other houses authorised will also -be started on almost immediately. A demonstration of the working of the new X-ray plant at the Stratford hospital will be given to members of the board previous to the next meeting. Demonstrations to which the public will be invited to be present will be given at a later date. THE -KING’S CINEMA THEATRE, What is perhaps the most aweinspiring scenery ever recorded by the motion picture camera is seen in •‘Blind Husbands,’’ the' Universal photodrama of the Tyrolean Alps, which will be screened at the King’s Theatre, Stratford, on Saturday night only. This photodrama stars Eric Stroheim. [ formerly of the Austrian army, in-' the | role that will. add to the hatred aroused by his part of the brutish Hun officer "in “The Heart of Humanity.” Stroheim depicts the role of Steuben of I the Austrian army. He goes to a j fashionable Alpine resort to prey on all ' i womenkind. Through sauve mock II courtesy and strictest attention to I •- : attest wants he breaks down the ,bar- | I rier of her reserve and leads her into a mild flirtation. / Failing to ruin the life of a beautiful American girl, though he nearly accomplishes his vile I purpose, von Steuben directs his atI tention on to the humble girls of the Alpine village and brands their simple I souls with his hot passion. His downj fall comes wjien he launches his puny I strength against the might of the etdinal mountains. Supporting Stroheim, , is the (beautiful Francelia Billington and a strong cast of well-known players. "Blind Husbands” presents a never-to-be-forgotten contrast of the quiet majesty of the mountains with the baseness of human desires. The prices for this Universal super-attrac-tion will be: Circle 2s, Stalls Is 6d (plus tax). Redeem the long-standing promise and have the photograph taken at McAllister’s Studio. We are always ready, day or night; no delay; no waiting either in taking or finishing, at this studio. Ring 25, Stratford.
