STATE CONTROL IN ITALY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rome, Jan. 25. Cabinet has approved the Bill drafted by the mixed commission, which provides for State control of the metallurgical, textile, chemical, electrical, agricultural, transportation, navigation, building, mining and catering industries, excluding businesses employing under 50 persons. The industries will be worked by committees of nine employers and nine workmen elected for three years. The workmen’s committee is to be entitled to full information in regard to the business, except trade secrets. Two workers in each factory are to be deputed to keep the workers* committee informed. Manufacturers are already filing protests against the Bill.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. WOOLLEN INDUSTRY WAGES. London, Jan. 25. The National Wool Textile Industrial Council at Bradford decided that women’s wages should be reduced 2s 6d and men’s 3s 6d weekly under the sliding scale, owing to the descending cost of living. SHORTER HOURS FOR MINERS. London, Jan. 25. At the miners’ international federation conference the report of a committee was read, showing that the sole exception to the short time system was Germany, where the Ruhr miners are working overtime to carry out the Spa agreement with the Allies allegedly at a price below the world’s price.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. LOSSES THROUGH STRIKES. London,'Jan. 25. Statistics compiled 'by the Manchester Guardian reveal that during six months last year nearly 115 million days were lost through strikes in the principal countries of the world and nine million persons were affected. The industries chiefly concerned were mining, iron, steel, shipping and agriculture, and the countries affected were Germany, France, Italy, and Britain.
