LOYALTY CAMPAIGN
ADDRESS BY REV. HOWARD ELLIOTT. There was a large audience, at the Workers’ Hall, New Plymouth, last night, when an address was given -by the Rev. Howard Elliott in regard to the loyalty campaign he is conducting. The speaker was acqprded a very attentive hearing throughout Mr. R. C. Hughets (president of the New Plymouth branch of the Protestant Political Association), presided. In the course of his remarks, Mr. Elliott traced the growth of the Protestant Political Association to its present position, remarking that it had now 250,000 The speaker next referred to matters dealt with during the last session of Parliament and election events. The introduction of the Marriage Amendment Act last session, and the discussion on the ne temere decree, were dealt with fully by Mr. Elliott. He took occasion to Criticise the action of the member for Taranaki (Mr. S. G. Smith) in voting against the Bill. The need for a loyalty campaign was i then stressed at length. The speaker remarked that everyone knew that widespread industrial unrest prevailed and would recognise that there were signs of impending trouble of very wide and far-reaching effect, which was likely to develop and threaten the peace of the world. Speaking of the development of the Communistic and the Bolshevik doctrines he urged all Protestants and loyal members of labor unions to be on the watch. In concluding, Mr. Elliott said the campaign of disloyalty was spreading because there war no counter-organ-isation. Tlrts P.P.A. stood for New Zealand and loyalty to the Empire, and he made an appeal for more members to strengthen the organisation, and for financial assistance. At the conclusion of the address a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker.
