UNIVERSITY SENATE
YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS. By Telegraph--Press Association Wellington, Jan. 26. At the meeting of the University Senate to-day the Hon. J. A. Hanan, Dr. Collins, Rev. Dr. Cameron and Professor A. P. Thomas were appointed a committee to investigate the application of the national endowment grant. Professor Segar moved: “That the matter of the proposed six years’ course in medicine be referred to the Medical Association for a report, and that, until the Senate has had an opportunity of considering such report, action in the direction of arranging for the six years’ course- be suspended.” The motion was agreed to. Professor Segar also proposed: “That as recommended by the Board of Studies, mechanics be restored as a subject for the entrance scholarships.’’ The motion was lost by six votes to eleven. The Rev. Dr. Cameron (Dunedin) moved: “That on the request of any college! council the Senate agrees to hold a graduation ceremony in that centre. In the .course of a discussion which followed, reference was made to the buffoonery of students, and the disgrace which their miscondoict at these ceremonies brought on the University, but the motion was carried by 13 votes to 8.
