WHEAT PRICE CONTROL.

DECISION OF CONFERENCE REVIEWED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Jan. 25. The decision of the recent wheat confereixce was reviewed at thiij morning’s meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, when a letter was received from the Otago provincial union asking the executive to reverse the decision of the conference to ask the Government to give growers a free market. Mr. G. P Johnston (Southland), moved that another vote be taken through the executives of all the branches of the Fanners’ Union. He said that personally he was against Government control, but had moved the motion because at the conference in Christchurch 50 per cent, of those present had not exercised their votes. Tn the discussion which followed the motion practically all the representatives present were opposed to the continuation. of Government control. Mr. Moss, vice-president, said that until Government * control was removed and the law of supply and demand allowed to operate the cost of living problem could not be solved. Mr. G. L. Marshall (Wellington) moved as an amendment that the executive agrees with the decision of the Christchurch conference that Government control of -wheat prices be discontinued after this year. Mr. J. Livingstone "[Southern Hawke’s Bay) seconded the amendment, which was carried. Mr. Marshall was appointed to represent the North Island wheat growers at a further conference with the Minister of Agriculture.
