Miss Hay (Wanganui), who has been the guest of Miss Bessie Bayley, has gone to Auckland. Mrs. McKoy has returned to Auckland, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. R. Paul. Miss Campbell, matron of the New Plymouth Hospital, returns from her holiday to-day. Miss Sturtevant has returned from Christchurch. Mrs. Mark (Wanganui) is the guest of Mrs. Morgan Mrs. W. Shaw motored from Auckland and is spending a few days in New Plymouth. Mrs. Fenton and Miss Draper (Auckland) motored to New Plymouth this week, and have now gone to Feilding Miss E. Warren (Christchurch) is staying with Mrs. Arden. . Mrs. Ballance and’Miss Drewitt, who have been spending a few days here, have returned to Wanganui. Mrs. K. Archer, New Plymouth, has gone to Auckland to pay a round of visits, and is at present the guest of Mrs. Kenderdine, Parnell. Mrs. McMillan and the Misses McMillan (2), of Wanganui, are staying at Chatsworth House. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Napier, of Auckland, have been appointed by the Victoria League as delegates to represent that body at the Empire Conference of societies to be held in London on June 20 next. Mr. and Mrs. Napier leave for Sydney on February 1 to join the s.s. Ormonde for London. * * * * Th? death occurred last week of Mrs. John Smith, of Christchurch, widow of the late Mr. John Hartley Smith, who predeceased her by twelve \ ears. Mrs. Hartley Smith had been ill for over a year, and her end was not unexpected. The death took place suddenly, at her residence in Palmerston North, on Sunday, of Mrs. Annie Scott, wife of Mr. G. L. R. Scott, a well-known surveyor of the district. Mrs. Scott was the daughter of the late Mr. Alexander M. ‘.edonald, who arrived in New Zealand in IS4O. She is survived by a son and daughter. Mr. Norman Pal merstep, of Auckland, and Mrs. McDonald. of Christchurch. Another son, Mr. Stanlev Palmerston, who left with th? Main Body of the N.Z.E.F., died of enteric fever in Cairo.
