Trades Hall officials announce that the stewards’ strike is drawing to a close. A meeting of the stewards has been called for Monday, when a proposal from the Melbourne Trades Union disputes committee will be discussed. The Seamen’s Union has officially announced it is prepared to man the ships on the conditions prevailing prior to the strike as soon as the stewards have reached a settlment or declared the strike off. The Transport Workers’ Federation at Monday’s meeting will submit a motion in favour of the stewards balloting on the question of resumption.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Issn.
