AUSTRIA.

GOVERNMENT RESIGNS. UNION WITH GERMANY SOUGHT. “POSITION VERY GRAVE." By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 22, 12.30 p.m. Paris, Jan. 20. Private advices from Austria state that the Austrian Government is actually resigning to-day. A general strike is breaking out, and meetings are being held throughout the country demanding union with Germany, and threatening to lynch profiteers and speculators. Enquiries at the London Embassy do not confirm the definite resignation of the Government. The Minister states he does not know exactly what has happened at the moment, but he knew the position was very grave.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
