PERSONAL.

At the Hawera Borough Council meeting on Thursday the Mayor said they would remember that at the last committee meeting of the council he had asked the town clerk to ascertain when Mr. R. H. Nolan would return to Hawera, his intention being to arrange for a civic reception. He was very much surprised to hear on Tuesday morning’* that Mr. Nolan was already in town. After making enquiries he found him and offered a welcome on behalf of the citizens of Hawera. Only those who were associated with Mr. Nolan during the war understood the vast amount of work that had been done by him. The present condition of his health was probably due to overstrain during that time. He had carried a greater burden than he was able to bear. The very least the town could do was to give him a welcome home and express to him a wish that his health would soon be restored. He did not think it was too late now to arrange for a public reception if the council thought it advisable. It was decided to tender Mr. Nolan a suitable public reception, provided the state of his health made this permissible.— Star.
