WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE

WAR WORK RECOGNISED. The work of the New Plymouth branch of the Women’s National Reserve in entertaining the mothers and wives of soldiers during the war was recognised at a function held at the Whiteley Hall yesterday afternoon, when the mothers and wives entertained the W.N.R. at a musical afternoon. There was a large attendance. The hall was beautifully decorated with flags and flowers, an appropriate feature being the red, whitii and ,blue colors. Mrs. E. M. Smith presided, and extended a welcome to the president of the Reserve (Mrs. C. H. Burgess) and members, and during the afternoon expressed appreciation, on behalf of the .mothers and wives, for the splendid efforts of the Reserve. Speeches eulogistic of the work of the W.N.R. were also made by the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) and Mr. 8. G. Smith, M.P. Mrs. Burgess replied. Musical items were given by the following: Miss Way, Mrs. Shelton, Miss Bennett, A.T.C.L., L.A.8., Mrs. Macdonald, Miss Jean Bennett, Miss Baxter, and Miss Doris Loveridge.
