JAPAN AND AMERICA..
DIPLOMATIC appointment. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Tokio, Jan. 16. The newspapers welcome reports from the United States that Mr. Frank A. Vanderlip is to be appointed the United States Ambassador to Japan.- They point out that Mr. Vanderlip is a proJapanese and his appointment now, when relations between Japan and America threaten to become complicated, would promote the friendship of the two nations.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. New York, Jan. 17. Mr. Vanderlip, whose appointment as Ambassador to Japan is canvassed, must not be confused with Washington Baker Vanderlip, who has been granted the Siberian concession by the Bolshe-viks.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
