Under the forward forest policy of the Government during the past two years the total area of Crown forest dedicated permanently and provisionally for applied forestry management, said the Director of Forestry when addressing nurserymen last week, had reached 7,000,009 acres; and it was hoped that during the next four years this would be steadily added to by proclamation and .purchase until the total area of supply, protection and recreation forests reaches 12,000,000 acres.

Otago Harbor is said to be at present teeming with dogfish, and as a result fishing, both by amateur and professional fishermen, is much handicapped. The large number of young dogfish about a foot in length is a feature of the unwelcome visitation.
