CORRESPONDENCE.

THE STORM IN THE TEA-CUP. To the Editor. Sir,—l read with surprise the report of the “difference” between the Inglewood County chairman and the clerk. From all that has appeared it looks entirely as if the “difference” is nothing at all if not a little personal spite. Now, Mr. Editor, this is what puzzles me: The majority of the councillors eay the clerk is a capable man, and has done his work quite efficiently, but because one man will not work amicably with him, the clerk must be dismissed to pacify the" whims of No. I. This is the .most ridiculous standpoint that could be imagined in a civilised community, and also, I may say truthfully, the most unfair. It is rather unfortunate that a chairman is such a very scarce and unprocurable commodity, and I hope the councillors will, not let the new-born county come to a sudden death should anything happen to their chairman. Many great men —statesmen, warriors, and leaders of all descriptions—have gone oft the stage, but the world has somehow managed to advance. Surely in a progressive district like Inglewood the necessary man would be forthcoming should the present chairman resign, rather than let such an injustice sully the escutcheon of a new and," I hope, righteous County Council.—l am, etc.,

A COUNTY RATEPAYER.
