PLOT FAILS.
GREAT FIRE PREVENTED. ATTEMPT NEAR LONDON SINN FEINERS BLAMED. Telegraph.—-Pre3s Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 16, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 15. Three constables frustrated a carefully planned attempt to set fire to the Vacuum Oil Company’s depot at Wandsworth, in which there were 60,000 barrels containing 2,50(T,000 gallons of oil. Three men wete seen loitering at midnight on Friday in the vicinity of the depot, and when challenged they fired several shot® with revolvers, but they did not injure the police. A dozen other men had scaled the wall of the depot by means of a rope ladder, and these ran out on hearing shots. The police pursued them, but all escaped except Wilfred Kenny, a clerk, who was charged with attempted murder and arson. The ptolice found in the depot a large quantity of cotton waste ready for setting alight, and oil was also leaking from a dozen barrels in which holes had been pierced.
