DEFAULTING TOWN CLERK. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, Jan. 11. At the S.M. Court to-day James Archer, formerly clerk and engineer of Masterton, was charged with having falsified documents intending them to ;be acted upon and used as genuine. ! There were 14 charges against accused, extending over a period from May, 1917, to October, 1919. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed for sen* tence at Wellington. . P. AND T. BONUS LOST. Wellington, Jan. 11. i The Government has given its final ! decision regarding the disputed bonus to postal and telegraph officers. In a let- ; ter to the secretary of the association ; the Premier says that the Government does not propose to take any further action. Mr. Massey holds that it is clear that the intention was that any second bonus granted should cease immediately re-grading took place, and quotes Sir Robert Stout’s report in favor of the Government’s contention. POLICE DEPOT RE-OPENING. Weliingjton, Jan. 11 As a result of Increasing enlistments in the police force it is understood the police depot in Wellington, which has been closed during the period of the war, will be re-opened at the end of the month under control of Senior-Sergeant McNamara. It is departmentally stated that increased rates of pay have attracted a fine stamp of recruit and the class w’ill be for the benefit of these men. Men of the ages of 20 and 21 are enlisting freely, and the majority intend to make police- woric their profession.
