CHARGED TOO MUCH By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A taxi driver was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with demanding a fare in excess of the legal tariff. He charged 6s 6d where 5s was the fare. The Magistrate said that where there was doubt there was an obligation on drivers to ascertain the legal fare before making a demand. The defendant was fined £2. ALLIANCE OF LABOR. Wellington, Last Night. Though the Transport Workers’ Federation and the Federated Seamen’s Unions are affiliated with the Alliance of Labor it seems that the component parts of the Transport Workers’ Federation were not consulted before this step was taken. At a “stop work” meeting of the Seamen’s Union to-day, it was reported that a plebiscite vote of members would be taken on the question of affiliation with the Alliance. SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY. Masterton, Last Night. The Masterton Borough -Council tonight decided to observe Saturday as the statutory half-holiday in lieu of Thursday, which has been the closing dfls for many years. PRIZE STOCK IMPORTED. Auckland. Last Night. The steamer Waikouaiti, which arrived from Liverpool to-day after a very rough trip, brought twenty-eight prise cattle, sheep, and pigs for the Dominion, including an Aberdeen Angua bull valtied at £lOOO for Wellington.
