N.S.W. v. TARANAKI-WANGANUI. THE TEAM FOR FRIDAY. On Friday, at Wanganui, a match will b? played by the New South Wales visiting tennis players and a combined Taranaki-Wanganui team. The latter combination has been selected as .follows:—Dickie, Wallace, Nicholson and Archer (Taranaki), Lampie and Powdrell (Wanganui). Caplen (Taranaki) has ‘ been chosen emergency. TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. REVIVAL THIS YEAR. After an interval of five years the annual tournament, under the auspices of the Taranaki Tennis Association, is to be revived, and will be held at New Plymouth on February 17 and following days. Messrs Archer and Wynyard have been appointed secretaries, to manage the tournament. DAVIS CUP PLAYERS. PRAISE AUCKLAND ARRANGEMENTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 11, 9.5 p.m. .Sydney, Jan. 11. The American tennis players arrived by the Makura en route to Melbourne, where they commence a three days’ match against Australia during the week-end Hardy, the manager of the team, said he had never seen a better court than the one on which the Davis Cup was played. The Australasians also arrived. They are enthusiastic about Tilden and Johnson, Brookes stating that they are the two greatest tennis players in the world. At an informal reception Tilden stated that the court arrangements and the handling of the matches was perfect and above criticism.
