GERMANY FEARS FRANCE. TROOPS MAY ADVANCE, DUE TO FAILURE TO DISARM, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 8, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 7. Advices from Berlin state that Germany is agitated over the disarmament question, and is now viewing the situation with great gravity. The papers plainly expect the French to advance immediately, separately in northern ajxd southern Germany simultaneously.—United Service. , FRANCE CONSULTS AMERICA. A REQUEST FOR HER VIEWS. NO CO-OPERATION ANTICIPATED. Received January 9, 5.5 p.m. Washington, Jan. 8. The State Department has received from the French Embassy a copy of the French Note to Germany, alleging vio.lations of the Spa agreement regarding disarmament, accompanied by a request for the views of the United States a,s to what action is justified in the event of Germany continuing to ignore her obligations. State Department officials intimate that the request by France that a representative of the United States should join in the coming conference at Paris regarding Germany’s derelictions will not be granted, as it is understood President Wilson is not desirous of pressing Germany as rigidly as France desires. —Aus.N.Z.
