MOTOR FATALITY SEQUEL
ARREST OF THE OAR DRIVER. CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER. RELEASED ON BAIL. As a sequel to the motdr fatality in New Plymouth on New Year’s Eve, John Barras, the driver of the car, was arrested on Saturday on a charge of manslaughter, the charge arising out of the death of Miss Ruby M. Coates, of Omata, who died as the result of injuries sustained in the motor collision At the inquest on Friday the jury brought in a verdict that the deceased met her death in a collision between a car driven by John Baryas and a motor cycle and side-car driven by Rupert Grey, the collision being due to John Barras being on his wrong side of the road. The jury added a rider expressing the opinion that the accident was largely due to the dangerous nature of the street. The accused, who was apprehended by Senior-Sergeant McCrorie, waB brought before Mr. H. R. Cattley, J.P. Inspector Hutton applied for a remand till Monday, the 17th inst., and this was granted, .bail being allowed in two sureties of £lOO each, and accuseds personal surety of £lOO.
