COAL SHORT AGAIN.
AUCKLAND GAS CURTAILED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A curtailment of the gas supply has again been rendered necessary by the non-arrival of expected coal supplies, and the Auckland Gas Company announce that as from to-morrow the gas pressure in districts outside the city proper will be reduced, except between the hours of 4.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. The Shaharistan, which has been awaiting a cargo of coal at Newcastle for a month, has now been diverted to load general cargo, and the holidays having interfered with supplies from Westport, the earliest shipment promised the company is not expected to sail from Westport before Monday.' Stocks held at present in Auckland are less than 1000 tons, which is sufficient only for about five days, and the curtailment is therefore likely to operate for about a week at least.
