PREMATURE EXPLOSION
TOKO RESIDENT INJURED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. The premature explosion of a ch&ge of gelignite resulted in Mr. Alfred Zurcher, aged 43, a farmer, of Toko Road, receiving serious injuries to his head and body early this morning. Mr. Zurcher was carrying out stumping operations on his farm, and a charge of gelignite which he had set exploded before he had time to get clear. He received practically the full force of the explosion, and in addition to severe burns and bruises the base of his skull was broken and his eyes badly injured. He was promptly removed to the Stratford hospital where he arrived in an unconscious state. His condition is regarded as crifTcal.
