BUTTER AND CHEESE.
NEW SEASON’S PRODUCTION. LARGE AUCKLAND INCREASEThe prospects of the dairying industry in the Auckland district are exceptionally good, and a record output of butter and cheese this season is practically assured. The weather has been exceptionally favorable to the growth of feed, and the substantial advance in the price of butter has induced farmers to increase their herds. The quantity of butter received in the Farmers’ Freezing Company’s stores for the last six months was 443,770 boxes, as compared wfith 235,349 boxes received during the season of July to December m 1919. The butter received during the month of December, 1920, amounted to 130,470 boxes, an increase of 50,666 boxes on the quantity received during December, 1919. During the past six months 91,320 crates of cheese were 'received, as compared with 69,236 crates during the corresponding period of last season. For December, the total was 28,987 crates, an increase of 3543 crates on the record for December, 1919. The shipments during December totalled 186,500 boxes of butter and 13,000 crates of cheese, 114,800 boxes of butter and 74,766 crates of cheese remaining in the stores. The necessity for more shipping space is urged by the company, an official of which stated that, when 50,000 boxes of butter had been lifted by the Port Nicholson, now in harbor, there will still remain in store 64,800 cases, with the quantity increasing by 28,000 each week. The Port Napier, which sailed on Tuesday for London, lifted 14,500 crates of cheese, and the Port Adelaide will lift 15,600 crates on her return from Gisborne. This will leave 44,666 crates in store. A total of 6000 crates is being received every week.
