HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, da,ted December 31, from tbe High Commissioni er for New Zealand,•London: — “Meat.—Trade very quiet for home killed. Continental supplies heavy. Unusually warm weather affecting conditions and reducing values, specially i)ork, which is selling down to Is 2d per lb. Average prices are:—Beef Is sd, mutton Is lamb Is 9d per lb, Imi ported, slow. , “Butter—Market quiet; buyers operj ating from hand to mouth. Government I ration is not being fully taken up. Re-. I tail price still 3s 4d per lb. Supplies ; good, and all prospects are favorable. Irish creamery quoted at £l6 to £l7 per cwt (2s lOd to 3s per lb).

I “Cheese. —Spot, demand better for free i Canadian, in preference to Government stocks. Ration price remains at Is 8d per lb retail. Canadian, white, £7 10s to £7 16s per cwt (Is 4d to Is per lb), colored £7 16s to £8 per cwt (Is 4%d to Is 5d per lb). “Hemp.—Manila market quiet and steady. October-December shipment quoted at £56 per ton; December-Feb-ruary and January-March shipments, £55 per ton, buyers. February-April shipment sold £55 10s per ton. New Zealand, nominal. High-points, spot, £54 per ton; December-February shipment, £52 per ton; fair, £52 and £5O pei* ton respectively.”
